  6. This is the initial release of NETcetera II, following on from
  7. the successful release of the original version - NETcetera
  8. v1.162A.  NETcetera is a commercial package, not shareware, 
  9. and full 24 hour support is provided to both "registered" 
  10. and Evaluation users.
  11.  
  12. The current launch offer price is ú24.95 inclusive of VAT, 
  13. ($34.95 outside of UK), but prices will vary over time.  
  14. The latest pricing (NCPRICE.TXT) and technical information 
  15. can always be found on the NETcetera home FTP site as listed 
  16. below.

  18. The package has been extensively redesigned and improved and
  19. now includes a fully integrated NNTP Newsreader, with full
  20. support included for high speed header downloading,  plus 
  21. recovery of News articles from specified dates only is also 
  22. supported.  It provides news sorting by Subject, Ascending/
  23. Descending date,a full expire facility which can be performed 
  24. on individual groups alone if required,  and you can Mark 
  25. articles to Keep, Watch or to retrieve bodies from header-only 
  26. articles.

  28. NETcetera II has been designed from its conception as an
  29. OFFLINE system, which allows you to perform ALL your online
  30. tasks as rapidly as possible, with ALL mail and News threading
  31. being performed only once you are Offline, saving considerably
  32. on telephone charges in the UK and Europe.  When going on line
  33. you can have NETcetera perform all your mail and news tasks in
  34. a single pass, avoiding having to consistently restart/repeat
  35. your internet connections to achieve completion of multiple
  36. tasks.

  38. The package is extensively configurable, and has been released
  39. suitably configured with default settings to suit the normal
  40. internet connection of the average user.  If you happen to be
  41. unfortunate enough to have unreliable ISP connections, (which
  42. you cannot guarantee to provide a connection when dialled), 
  43. you can easily configure NETCetera to allow you to confirm once 
  44. you have managed to obtain a successful link, so avoiding it 
  45. attempting to fetch or send mail and news before you are 
  46. properly connected.

  48. The product fully supports multiple users, and allows you to
  49. switch between users easily and quickly without having to exit,
  50. and each user has a completely separate configuration, even to
  51. having different users with different types of accounts
  52. (SMTP/POP3)
  53.  
  54. Full support is provided for Mime attachment handling,
  55. UUencoding/Decoding of single and multi-part files, and even
  56. support for encoding/decoding third party files is built in.
  57.  
  58. The default configuration assumes that you have already 
  59. configured your TCP stack, such as Trumpet, and have your
  60. configuration set to both autodial and autolog off again 
  61. after a suitable timeout. This is the configuration that 
  62. NETcetera recommends for trouble free connections.

  64. We have provided extensive help on configuring Trumpet and
  65. other TCP stacks in the Help system, and have taken 
  66. considerable trouble to ensure that the package is as easy to
  67. operate via the keyboard as by use of the mouse.

  69. Like all packages of this type we are sure you will have your
  70. own personal likes and dislikes, and would ask that you let
  71. us have your comments so that we can ensure it meets the 
  72. widest possible requirements.

  74. Before you run the setup program, we strongly advise that 
  75. you have the details of your email account available, and 
  76. if a POP3 a/c, also the POP ID, password if required, and 
  77. host details.  You are asked to create your default user 
  78. during the SETUP process, and although this can be 
  79. bypassed, we recommend you do not do so.

  81. Once SETUP has completed, it is necessary to "INITIALIZE" 
  82. NETcetera II by running the program provided by the 
  83. NCCONFIG icon in the newly created program manager group. 
  84. This runs a program called REGISTER.EXE that must be run 
  85. before NETcetera will function on your PC.  This merely 
  86. intitialises the program as an evaluation copy that will 
  87. run for 21 days.

  89. The only "nag" screens you will see are when initally 
  90. loading, when you will be told how many days remain in 
  91. the evaluation period.   Once the period expires the 
  92. product will NOT function further, and you cannot 
  93. reinstall it again in the same directory or recover 
  94. mail or news from the time expired version unless you
  95. register the package.

  97. However we feel sure that once you have experienced 
  98. its functionality you will want to register NETcetera, 
  99. and would remind you that for a limited period the 
  100. current special introductory offer price is only ú24.95
  101. inclusive of VAT in the UK and $34.95 in all other parts 
  102. of the world.

  105. updates to the Help system will be found on the home site

  107. to time.  Just check the site regularly as we are constantly
